17 Free Tools to Get More Out of Windows 7

One of Windows 7′s niftier features is Jumplists, which offer a variety of pre-determined actions that can be taken when you right-click an icon in the new, redesigned Taskbar. Jumplist-Launcher attempts to power up that feature. With Jumplist-Launcher, you will be able to create a custom Jumplist on the Taskbar. You’ll be able to launch any application from it and open folders and files that you specify. You can also organize the Jumplist any way you want, and create a Jumplist of up to 60 items, which normally isn’t possible under Windows 7. If you’re willing to spend some time with it, you’ll be able to create a Jumplist that you normally can’t create in Windows 7.

Good Boot: Windows 7 Start Menu

When you place your pointer over a program e.g. Word or Windows Media Player on the Windows 7 Start Menu a Jump List of recent Word files or Media Player tunes is listed. You can click on any individual document to open it or individual tune to play it.

Google Chrome gets Jumplists in Windows 7

The latest developer build of Google Chrome gets Jumplist support in Windows 7 – and that too against all my expectations. I was hoping that the recently released Firefox 3.6 Alpha 1 would have Jumplists support before any other browser like Google Chrome, Opera or Safari – but I guess I was asking for too much.

[How-To] Disable Recent Files List In Windows 7 'Taskbar'

One of the nice feature in windows 7 is the recent file list shown when right clicked-on the task bar. But some may not want this. I don’t know whether I am correct or not, But I feel it slows down start-up of applications a bit.

Access Windows 7 Taskbar with Keyboard Shortcuts

To display the Jump List for a particular application or window, tap ALT + WINKEY + #. So, to display the Google Chrome Jump List, I would tap ALT + WINKEY + 3, and then could use the arrow keys to find an item, and then tap ENTER to select it.

How to Get More Out of Windows 7

JumpLists automatically show files based on how often and how recently they have been accessed. Each program on the Windows 7 Start menu and taskbar has a jump list. They are accessed by right-clicking on a taskbar icon or by clicking on a Start Menu arrow. Some programs – such as Windows Media Player – populate Jump Lists with common tasks.
